Out of Africa Animal Sanctuary was established in 2002. Our founders, Sandy Raubenheimer and her husband, emigrated from South Africa, settled northwest of Edmonton, and have been rescuing animals for the past 19 years.
We are located near Rivière Qui Barre on a picturesque farm in rural Alberta (approximately 20 minutes North West of Edmonton). Our sanctuary is 100% volunteer run with an extremely dedicated team of individuals. Together we aim to not only offer sanctuary and rehabilitation to some of our most vulnerable animals but while doing so we aim to educate and support our community. Our core mission is to give our community and youth the chance to learn through animals and to experience the sanctuary and its learning opportunities. With over 100 animals in our care, we focus to teach compassion for all living creatures which we effectively accomplish through a wide variety of farm activities, animal care and volunteering. As we are a registered charity, our ability to operate is entirely based on donations.
